A health worker conducts screening activities in rural villages in Uganda. The project covered 1,873,300 people in four districts Kitgum, Pader in Northern Uganda and Arua & Nebbi in west Nile region. Community Health Promoters and BRAC Community Health Workers identified people with presumptive TB, collected sputum, prepared slides for microscopy, and provided treatment support to people diagnosed with TB. These outreach efforts resulted in more than a 100% increase in the number of people receiving TB treatment, and also increased treatment success despite the large increase in notifications.
