Organization: National Respiratory Referral Hospital

Country of work: Indonesia

Role in the Delegation:  Board Member

Prof. Erlina Burhan is a distinguished figure in the medical community in Indonesia, particularly renowned for her e        expertise in tuberculosis and  other respiratory infections. With an illustrious academic background as a Pulmonologist at Persahabatan Hospital Jakarta and Professor of Pulmonology at the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Indonesia, her career has been marked by significant contributions to both clinical practice and research. She is involved in several international clinical trials as National Principal Investigators, including the groundbreaking M72 TB vaccine study supported by the Gates Medical Research Institute.

She is currently a Board Member of the Stop TB Partnership Board representing the Private Sector Providers Constituency. She also currently serves as a Board Member of the Director of the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease, along with numerous advisory and consultant positions, including for the World Health Organization.

Dr. R V Asokan is a practising general physician running 26 bedded Deen Hospital with his wife Dr Laila Asokan, an Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, in Punalur, Kerala, India since 1983. He was the Indian Medical Association (IMA) State Secretary and State President of Kerala. He conceived and established the IMAGE Bio Medical Waste (BMW) Project of IMA Kerala State Branch, which handles the entire BMW of Kerala State. He was the National Coordinator of the IMA Global Fund Public Private Mix TB project. He served in the Strategy and Technical Advisory Group (STAG-TB) of the WHO Geneva for two years. He also served in the Executive Committee in formulating ISTC (International Standards of TB Care). He was the Honorary Secretary General of the IMA in 2019 and 2020.

He is currently leading the IMA as its National President. He is also an Alternate Board Member of the Stop TB Partnership Board representing the Private Sector Providers Constituency.

Organization: Aga Khan University Hospital. Undugu Empowerment  Programs

Role in the Delegation:  Member

Immaculate Wesonga is a proficient cardiothoracic nursing professional with experience in dealing with complicated TB requiring surgery. She has 15 years of nursing experience in intensive care units, healthcare administration and research. She has worked in leading private hospitals in Kenya such as the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital and Aga Khan University Hospital, Kenya. She is also the founder of Undugu Empowerment Programs, an NGO which promotes youth welfare in Kenya. She also has experience in Project Development, from initiation level to scale up.

Dr. Shubnum Singh  is an alumnus of the Lady Hardinge Medical College, Delhi, and has 4.5  decades of rich experience in healthcare, spanning across roles as a practicing  clinician, administrator, entrepreneur and administrator. Her strength lies in strategizing, policy advocacy, skilling, capacity building, and nuances of operationalizing complex healthcare delivery systems in Private and Public Sectors. She is a Principal Advisor of the Health Confederation of Indian Industry,  contributor to task forces on  AI, Digital, Medical Technology, Health Insurance & Costing of Services, Public Health, Policy & Governance. Decades of advisory and executive experience in various facets of public and private healthcare related delivery, has a wide and deep network of trust-based relationship with stakeholders across Indian healthcare ecosystem and larger ecosystems. She has a firm belief that health has moved from the confines of tight matrix to an expanded and rapidly changing  ecosystem of health and non-health players. She sits on various Public and Private Boards, such as the Governing Board of Health Sector Skills Council (HSSC) and Life Sciences Sector Skills Council (LSSDC). She is a Founder Member of Max Healthcare Group of Hospitals and a Founder Chair of the Health Management Program at  the Max Institute of Healthcare Management at the Indian School of Business (ISB). Shubnum is also a Head of Member Relationships at Stop TB India and the Member of the India Country Coordinating Mechanism.

Prof. Dr. J.A. Jayalal is a postgraduate professor and a Head of Department in General Surgery at Kanyakumari Government Medical College. Currently, he is also serving as the Secretary General of the Commonwealth Medical Association (CMA), which has its headquarters in London and is a federal unit of all 56 national medical associations in the Commonwealth countries. He has a postgraduate and doctorate degree in surgery from India and also obtained the prestigious fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, the American College of Surgeons, and the International College of Surgeons. He has published 65 index articles in surgery to his credit and contributed to five textbooks in surgery. He has passionately worked on promoting family medicine concepts in India, published an internationally indexed family medicine journal as an editor, and served diligently in the field of bioethics. Currently, he is serving as the National Coordinator of bioethics at UNESCO. He is a strong, well respected articulate leader of the Indian Medical Association (IMA), the largest professional body of doctors in India, and served as its national president in 2021

Dr. Lawson has about 38 years of experience as a doctor, administrator and researcher and is currently a Consultant Paediatrician/Chairman of the Board of Zankli Medical Services Ltd. in Abuja. She is a member of the Paediatrics Association of Nigeria, Nigeria Medical Association, Nigeria Society of Neonatal Medicine, Fellow of the West African College of Physicians, and Abuja Liaison Officer for the Sickle Cell Support Society of Nigeria. She is a member of the Board of Trustees of Sickle Cell Cohort Research Foundation (SCORE). She is a Chairman of the Court of Governors of the Lagos State University College of Medicine, Patron of the Stop TB Partnership of Nigeria, Steering Committee Member of the ARISE (African Research and Innovative Initiative for Sickle Cell Education) and Consortium Partners, Member of the Board of Trustees of the Sickle Cell Aid Foundation,  Chairman of Advocacy and Legislative Technical and Working Group and a former National Coordinator of the Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria. 

Apart from the regular clinical practice, she has been involved in research work and has several published papers in  peer review journals.
