WHO World TB Day Press Briefing on Expand-TB

In the lead up to World TB Day, the press briefing will report on the results of the EXPAND-TB project, with the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), UNITAID, FIND and GDF. The EXPAND-TB (Expanding Access to New Diagnostics for TB) project was initiated in 2009 to accelerate access to diagnostics for patients at risk of MDR-TB in 27 low- and middle-income countries. The project is funded by UNITAID and is collaboration between WHO, the Stop TB Partnership's Global Laboratory Initiative (GLI) and Global Drug Facility (GDF), and the Foundation for Innovative New Diagnostics (FIND). The overall goal of the five-year project is to improve capacity to diagnose MDR-TB in upgraded laboratory services, in order to help eliminate the huge diagnostic gap in addressing MDR-TB.

RESULTS UK commemorates TB in the UK

Engage with our MPs about TB, using TB in the UK as the key to encourage them to take part in issues relating to the global TB epidemic. Ask MPs to add their names to our World TB Day statement ahead of March 24th and to write press releases and use their social media to raise the profile of TB. The World TB Day statement has already been signed by 72 UK MPs and Peers and by Parliamentarians from seven of the eight G8 nations. Use this opportunity to build a new group of parliamentary champions on the path to becoming committed advocates for TB, both in relation to the disease in the UK and all around the world. ToBe Continued

ToBe Continued is an original concert lasting 24 hours (from 00.00 hours to the midnight of 24 March 24), during which musicians from many parts of the world will connect to this website and broadcast live their concerts. During this un-interrupted 24 hour marathon each musician has at their disposal a 30-minute window. Anybody can listen to ToBe Continued - as long as an internet connection is available, by hitting the PLAY button above (now disabled). This year's project also includes several public listening points (bars, libraries, cultural centers, art galleries, shops, all listed on the website) that will broadcast the concert. The event has been made possible with thanks to a generous contribution by the Eli Lilly MDR-RB Partnership.
A SADC Ministerial Summit: Regional Response to TB in the Mining Industry

The Ministerial Symposium will highlight progress made by Lesotho, South Africa, Mozambique and Swaziland in developing a regional response to TB in the mining sector following the SADC Declaration on TB in the mines. Hosted by the Deputy President of South Africa, Mr Kgalema Motlanthe, the summit will also provide analytic evidence of the economic costs and benefits of investment on TB in the mines while engaging key stakeholders to commit resources to address gains in the current response.
