Organization Description: |
Uganda Community Based Health Care Association (UCBHCA) is an Umbrella Organization for nonprofit nongovernmental organizations. It was formed in 1986 by 86 nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) local and international which were involved in implementing Primary Health Care in Uganda
It was registered under the national NGO board in April 1986 as national Non Governmental Organizations (NGO) operating at national level in all parts of Uganda.
UCBHCA is a major partner with the Ministry of Health of Uganda in implementing the national Health Policy, Health Sector Strategic Investment Plan (HSSIP) through its member health centres and Community based organizations operating in districts in Uganda.
1.1 UCBHCA’s Vision is: To improve the quality of life of all the people.
1.2 Mission Statement: To promote and coordinate sustainable community based health and development initiatives through gender responsive planning and community participation.
UCBHCA strives to achieve the above mission by; 1. Promoting the growth of Community Based Approach to Community Development as the most effective and sustainable long term way to achieve maximum Socio-economic development.
2. Empowering communities to manage their own health and development initiatives through capacity building at all levels i.e National, District, County, Sub-county, Parish and Village) in integrated Primary Health Care and social development.
3. Serving as a focal point for nonprofit health centres and Community Based organizations involved in community development activities and undertaking coordination, training, monitoring and evaluating activities of member organizations and giving them necessary technical support and guidance.

We are fully engaged in national TB programs working jointly with the Ministry of HEALTH TB and LEPROSY PROGRAM. We operate country wide through our nonprofit health centers and grassroots Community Based Organization/CBOs. Carry out training of medical staff, TOTs and CHWs who go out to reach the communities through their CBOs We carry out Advocacy at national and community level We develop training Manuals on different topics. In 2006 we developed a community based TB DOTS manual, We are now developing a new one on Community engagement in TB and we plan to train more woorkers |

Please tell us how your organization will contribute to the Global Plan to Stop TB by briefly describing its involvement in any of the areas of work listed below: |
TB Care Delivery: We made plans to increase our Advocacy activities at district to increase public awareness of TB and importance of early health seeking behaviour to increase early detection treatment by March 2019, To reduce drug resistance we have identified some factors that contribute to drug resistance which include adherence and stock outs of TB drugs from sources where our patients get drugs. To address the challenges we have made plans to train all the medical staff in health centers on counseling TB patients,provision of quality of care, Follow up of patients in referral and linking with Community based Health Care workers to reach patients at home to ensure compliance/adherence to treatment, Work with Ministry supply chain to ensure quality drug supply, To refer all cases with resistant TB to identified treatment canters To increase community participation in TB prevention to reduce drug resistance To ensure that all patients with HIV are tested for TB in most of our health centers where the Capacity is available and where not available refer to other centers |
