Organization Description: |
1. The School of Public Health was established three years back (in 2016) within the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Namibia (UNAM). The mission of UNAM is to be a beacon of excellence and innovation in teaching, research and extension services while the mission for the School of Public Health is to improve population health and contribute to health equity in Namibia and beyond through quality education, research, and community service. 2. We are interested in TB because Namibia is among the top five countries in the world with the highest per capita TB disease burden. Additionally the magnitude of drug-resistant TB in the country remains high but some people in the country are still ignorant about TB.
3. Some of our staff serve in the National TB committee and contribute to the development of the National Guidelines for the Management of Tuberculosis, and TB infection control guidelines. The School contributes in terms of research as our post graduate students conduct various types of research from the National TB research agenda. We do consultancies that involve TB/HIV. We teach Master of Public Health and Master of Science in Field Epidemiology and we use TB Surveillance as an example. Our post graduate students are working on TB program as managers and we use TB scenarios in our teaching. We do coordinate and collaborate with the Ministry of Health and other partners such as WHO on TB research agenda. All these activities will contribute to the control of TB in the country and our its neighbors.
