Organization Description:
1. Our mission is: Involving and empowering community members in Active TB case finding, treatment monitoring and notification in Mozambique. ACTIVACO TB stands for (Activando o Controlo da Tuberculose)
2.In Mozambique, 154000 people are diagnosed with TB every year, with a TB detection rate of 38%.Most of the patients are passively detected when they come to consultation and little contact tracing is done. HIV prevalence is 13.5% and most HIV infected patients die from TB. ACTIVACO TB would like to contribute in increased TB case notification through Involving communities in Active TB case finding and treatment monitoring.
3.ACTIVACO TB has passed the first stage of TB REACH Wave 6 proposal and we are waiting for the final results. On the meantime, we are doing the following activities:
- Participation in a TB Technical Working Group at national level to discuss strategies to reach Missing TB cases in the communities
- Participation in Civil Society organization working groups to discuss coordination of activities in the community.
- Collaboration with Provincial and District TB supervisors to plan TB cases finding and referral for treatment activities on the field.
- Collaboration with Community leaders to select Community TB activists and map TB index cases.
- Training of Community TB activists on TB screening and sputum collection and transportation.
- Organization of TB awareness campaigns in the communities, using “Champions"
- Collecting data and monitoring the TB cases detection and management cascade.
- Conducting operational research to evaluate the contribution of Community on additional TB notification and cost of interventions.
- Participating in District and Province meetings to share results and good practice from the Project.

ACTIVACO TB has a Memorandum of Understanding with the Minsitry of Health,and four other provinces,and our workplan is aligned and complements that of the National TB Control Program as well as the Provincial Strategic Plans.
Our members participate in Technical Working Groups at national and provincial levels.
ACTIVACO TB is given targets of additional patients to notify.

Contribution

TB Care Delivery:
TB index case tracing and contact screening
TB awareness campaigns in the community using "champions"
Referring people with suggestive TB signs and Symptoms for diagnostic and treatment
Monitoring of treatment adherence in the community

TB-HIV:
Implementation of collaborative TB/HIV activities, in line with the national guidelines and in coordination with the National HIV/AIDS program
