Misión
The mission of the Institute of Advanced Scientific Investigations and High Technology Services (INDICASAT-AIP) is to be established as a platform for scientific and technological progress of Panama, contributing to the formation of human resources of excellence in research – development applied to different priority disciplines for the country’s progress. The vision of the institution is to become a center of excellence and national and international reputation in biomedical scientific research and technology services to serve as a benchmark and transfer of technology to other countries, especially those in Latin America. As part of this vision, INDICASAT AIP focuses its activities on:
The recruitment of highly qualified human resources; Biomedical research with an interdisciplinary approach and national and international collaboration; Promoting scientific culture in the country through training and support for scientific-technological and academic activities; The provision of services and transfer of knowledge in priority for socio-economic development of the country.
2. We are interested in tuberculosis because Panama stand with the highest mortality rate of TB among the Central American countries. This figure have not change during the last 20 years, despite of the support of international help such as Damian Foundation, Global Fund and others. Consequently, we are deeply interested to provide scientific support to understand and defeat the epidemic.
3. We are currently conducting research program in three areas: basic, applied and operational investigations. First, we are investigating the molecular cellular mechanisms of novel biomakers for monitoring treatment response. Secondly, we are conducting cohorts to identify and validate novel biomarkers for latent TB infection, treatment response and disease progression. Besides the basic, applied and operational research, our scientist participate in the drafting and updating of the National Strategic Plan for TB control as well as the National Guidelines for TB control. Also our organization provide experts for the training courses conducted by the National TB Program as well as the National Reference Laboratory.
Simultaneously, all our research grants we include 15-20% budget towards conducting training course or seminars exclusively for health care workers on TB control activities. We also provide at no cost consultancy and advising in laboratory development for TB diagnosis as well as training on the cutting edge technologies available for TB control. |
