Contribution

Please tell us how your organization will contribute to the Global Plan to Stop TB by briefly describing its involvement in any of the areas of work listed below:

TB Care Delivery:
The goal of the current national strategic plan (NSP), which covers the timeframe from July 2017 to December 2021, is to reduce the number of TB deaths by 40% in 2021 compared to 2015 and, to this end, operational objectives were established. Indeed, this NSP aims at increasing more TB case detection and treatment success rate, especially in highly urbanized regions, through the improvement and strengthening of the existing NTP services, the involvement of all care providers and the reinforcement of TB services for high risk groups and vulnerable populations. We are aiming for the detection of 92% of TB cases in 2021(83% in 2015)and targetting more than 90% of therapeutic success in 2021 (86% in 2015).

Drug-Resistant TB:
the NSP develops and implements the programmatic management of drug-resistant TB.We are aiming for the detection of at least 75% of multi-drug-resistant TB cases in 2021 and targetting more than 80% of therapeutic success in 2021.

TB-HIV:
in order to still reduce the number of TB deaths, the NSP also aims at improving and strengthening TB/HIV joint activities. We are aiming to test, for HIV, 95% of TB patients and to place 100% of HIV-positive TB patients on antiretroviral drugs according to international guidelines by the end of 2021.

Laboratory Strengthening:
The NSP is aiming to increase access to quality-assured AFB microscopy, to improve the diagnosis of TB among AFB smear-negative TB cases and to increase access to rapid laboratory diagnosis of drug-resistant TB among TB patients considered at risk of M/XDR-TB. It also establishes laboratory quality management system

New Diagnostics:
The NSP introduces the new molecular biology techniques for the diagnosis and treatment of TB and M/XDR-TB in combination of digital radiology: Xpert MTB/RIF, Hain...
The NSP also recommends the LED microscopy technique.

New TB Drugs:
The NSP wants to ensure the adoption of new TB drugs and regimens at the country leve, like short regimens for MDR TB, according to international guidelines

Fundamental Research:
The NSP targets the characterization of human TB using modern biomedical, epidemiological
and clinical approaches, especially for MDR and XDR TB. It also aims to understand the natural history of M. tuberculosis infection in extrapulmonary TB.

Research:
The NSP also includes a technical assistance plan which specifies the expertise needed to implement certain interventions and activities, needed to increase early TB case-detection and improve the diagnosis of drug-sensitive and -resistant TB, and TB/HIV co-infection.
