Organization Description: |
Civil Society Movement Against Tuberculosis-Sierra Leone (CISMAT-SL) is been pioneerd by ex-TB patients but is a Civil Society Coalition of diverse organisations ranging from Community Based and Faith Based Organisations working on the promotion of civil society involvement in TB issues with the bid to re-invigorate advocacy efforts for the prevention, early diagnosis and treatment of TB realising the fact that TB is an health and a human rights issue.
The coalition was formed as a result of the non-inclusion of civil society and TB patients into TB programmes and policies and that the low political commitment which has stimulated a lot of silence around TB issues, as this has caused stigma and discrimination to people living with TB in the communities of Sierra Leone.
The mission is to advocate for a better access to TB drugs and services using the Advocacy, Communication and Social Mobilization approaches by promoting Community System Strengthening, civil society and TB patients engagement.

Through this structures, have been able to mobilize 350 TB Patients that have formed themselves in to support group and part of their role is to do TB patients peer to peer support, build confidence of their TB folks and treatment literacy.
Whilst as the role of the Community TB Animators is to monitor all TB related services such as nutritional support, TB drugs, TB re-agents and client satisfaction. This will promote effective TB service delivery.
