1.The Organizational mission of Jimma Zone Health Office is bearing its responsibilities in the country’s overall poverty reduction and development through establishing and building equity, decentralized and democratic health care delivery system in Jimma Zone; leading, organizing, monitoring and controlling interventions that aim at promotion of health, prevention of mortalities, morbidities and disabilities that include provision of adequate and quality health care service in areas of maternal and child health care, diseases prevention and control, health education, community mobilization as well as also partnership building in the zone. 2. It is one of the focus and intervention areas our organization stands for. 3. What we as organization currently doing in relation to TB prevention and control include: i. Strategic and annual planning, ii. Monitoring and evaluation iii. Request and collection of necessary laboratory reagents, anti-TB drugs and other supplies from regional health bureau and timely distribution to districts. iv. Capacity building v. Advocacy, communication, health education and community mobilization. vi. Resource mobilization like Competing for different national and international grants including the TB Reach and Global Fund Grants. vii. Research viii. Partnership with different stakeholders working on TB prevention and Control. |

Jimma Zone health Office is a governmental organization, based in Jimma Town, Oromia Regional State, southwest Ethiopia. With its organizational vision of seeing a healthy, productive and developed community of the Zone, by virtue of its granted authority and within its defined mandates, the Jimma Zone Health Office leads, organizes, supports & controls implementation of broad health programs at various levels in the zone including Disease Prevention and Control which also incorporates Tuberculosis Prevention and Control. Regarding specific to TB control, the control activities follow the general health tier and delivery system. At health post level Health Extension Workers (Front-line health workers based in community) identify presumptive TB cases (TB suspects) and refer to a nearby Health Centers for AFB investigation; and also treat TB patients diagnosed at health centers and sent back to them. Health centers and hospitals do both TB diagnosis and treatment. The Jimma Zone Health Office in this aspect leads, organizes and monitors all the activities that underwent at levels from community to the zonal level which include: 1. Preparing participatory strategic and annual plans with districts, 2. Conducting regular Supportive supervision to district level TB control program an health facilities 3. Timely request of drugs and AFB reagents from Oromia Regional Health Bureau and delivering to districts an health facilities, 3. Conducting basic trainings on TB prevention and control for health professionals at program level and health facilities 4. Mentor-ship at health centers and health posts and building skills of to health personnel 5. Surveillance through data compilation, analysis and interpretation; 6. Regular monitoring and evaluation of performances,feedback and giving corrective directions. 7. Monitoring proper utilization capital budget as well as donor supported aid. 8. Lobbing the political body at zonal, district and sub-district level in order they well understand about TB and give due attention in aspects of leadership, decision making, resource allocation, priority setting and community mobilization. 9. Resource mobilization, Competing in different national and international grants including the TB Reach and Global Fund Grants. 10. Conducting and participating in different operational researches. 11. Strives for partnership building and hence is working with different partners in areas of TB prevention and Control. |

Please tell us how your organization will contribute to the Global Plan to Stop TB by briefly describing its involvement in any of the areas of work listed below: |
TB Care Delivery: Establishing DOTS in newly founded health facilities, strengthening DOTS in already existing facilities and assuring its quality in all DOTS providing health institutions.
Drug-Resistant TB: Establishing Drug resistant TB treatment initiating and follow-up centers in collaboration with regional health bureau, training of health professionals on Drug-Resistant TB and monitoring and evaluation of MDR treatment activities.
TB-HIV: Implementing TB/HIV as one part of TB prevention and control including planning, leading, controlling, capacity building as well as monitoring and evaluation. Assuring screening of all TB cases for HIV and screening of all HIV positive individuals for TB and also ensuring availability of test kits and algorithms and staff awareness in all health care facilities.
Laboratory Strengthening: Providing laboratories with necessary equipments like microscopes and accessories and reagents. Working with concerned body on availability of electric or other alternative power supply. Training of lab. personnel, ensuring regular practicing of internal and external quality assurance. Facilitating sputum sample transport to zonal or regional labs for culture DST and also assuring its timely feedback.
Research: Conducting and collaborating on operational researches especially that focus on reasons for low case notification, delayed treatment seeking and loss to follow up of cases. |
