Organization Description: |
Mobile and Zambia is an NGO that looks into the welfare of the Truck Drivers in Zambia especially on health and safety. Initially MoAZ was Truck Drivers Association of Zambia (TDAZ) up to 2014 July when it changed to Mobile and Alive Zambia. This was due to TDAZ wanting to focus on Labour issues only. The MoAZ VISION; to have improved access to health and safety among the mobile populations for a better living. MISSION STATEMENT To mitigate the impact of HIV/AIDS among the mobile communities through the advocacy, promotion and implementation of innovative strategies and to deliver appropriate Health services. Some OBJECTIVES of the MoAZ are: 1. To promote awareness, education and advocacy on Health and Migration among the mobile populations. 2. Empower the mobile population with survival skills at avoid illicit activities that will put them at risk of HIV infections. 3. To establish, equip, maintain and manage branches, and contacts of the MoAZ in main towns/border areas in Zambia and across. MoAZ covers the whole of Zambia as catchment area. In 2001, by then TDAZ was founded and registered under the registrar of society to address the issues that are affecting the long distance truck drivers. HIV/AIDS program was developed to build capacity for truck drivers and their families to be able to handle the pending crisis aimed at providing, material, training and moral support to both infected and affected families. The Truck drivers are one of the HIGH RISK GROUP that need attention because most of the time are out of their homes and that puts the them to be on a risk of contracting the HIV. Some of the interventions taken to address this is to train Truck Drivers as Change Agents, in house session for the spouses of truck drivers and outreach HIV sensitization in hotspots and transporting companies including the border areas. This is done by the aid from IOM, ZCCP, MTWSC and NAC. |

Not as yet but we realise that most of the members (truck drivers and their families are heavily affected and infected with TB hence the need to start advocating for early treatment. They are vulnerable to the disease because of the nature of job they are involved of delivering goods to and from the mines and also the literacy level of the this high risk group. |
