| From 1993 our Hosital is the Reference Centre for DOTS in Barcelona: we do DOTS to TB patients as internment at the Hospital or outside it with a team of Health Professionals trained to administer TB drugs at their home, their work or where the patient needs. We have a medical team of specialized doctors (pulmonologists, epidemiology) and other health professionals as sotial workers, psycologist and phisiotherapist. All the members of our organization are involved with TB. We think we can colaborate with the DOTS Expansion Goup as we have a lard experience in treating TB with DOTS. |

| We contibute with: 1)Treating with DOT all patints with high risk factors of non-adherence sended to the Unity by the control programme, hospitals and spcilyzed Unity of Tuberculosis Drassanes-Valld'Hebron Hospital, and with a trained teams outside Barcelona as Lleida and Tarragona. 2) Collaborating in research projects at national level and european level (TB-NET) 3) Developping guidelines abouth TB with the "Unidad Internacional de Investigación de Barcelona" and the Tuberculosis Control Programme of Catalonia. |

TB Care Delivery: In 1993 the TB Control Programme of Ctalonia decided to have the DOTS Strategy to treat and cure TB patients with risk factors of non-adherence. We went to New York to know how we needed to do it. "Serveis Clinics" was the responsible for organize and develop this activity: patients in DOTs are: homeless, drug-addicts, unemployments, alcohol users, new cases or relapses, malignancies, HIV patients, MDR-TB, XDR-TB, Total-Resistant-TB, transplantement need, anti-TNF treatments and all other pacients who can't to do the treatment at home. We think we can be involved with Spot TB Partnership. Drug-Resistant TB: All TB patients diagnosed in Catalonia are sended to "Serveis Clinics Hospital" to be treated for their Drug Resistant TB. TB-HIV: Patients with TB and HIV who can't be treated at home, are sended at Serveis Clinics for their TB treatment. Laboratory Strengthening: Our reference laboratory is at the "Hospital Universitari Germans Trias i Pujol", with Dr Ausina (a member of the Stop-TTB) New Diagnostics: We are using the Gen XpertMDR/TB-RIF method, and the genotyping and methods for the rapid detection of mycobacterias. New TB Drugs: When will be available, we will can use of them. New TB Vaccines: We are in contact with Dr Pere Joan Cardona of "Hospital Trias i Pujol" tho is working with a new TB vaccine. Fundamental Research: We do research on epidemiology, clinical diagnostic and outcomes of TB treatment. |
