The Ceylon National Association for the prevention of Tuberculosis is a Non Governmental Organization which has a history of 65 years. It was established in 1948 to serve the community.
Objectives of the CNAPT
01. The dissemination of the most up to date information in the field of Tuberculosis and Lung diseases
02. To alert the general public, non governmental organizations and professionals in the health sector on the challenges presented by Tuberculosis and lung diseases.
03. To actively support the strategy of the National Tuberculosis plan of the Ministry of Health.
04. To promote research in to Tuberculosis and other respiratory diseases and provide technical support to the TB control programme.
05. To organize Seminars, Workshops and other scientific meetings on Tuberculosis and other lung diseases.
06.To enlist the community to help generate funds to provide financial assistance for anti- TB Programmes.
07. To implement the Global Fund objective by Training of school teachers at a national level.

The CNAPT was founded in 1948 by an act of Parliament as a National Volunteer Organization to combat TB in the Country. It was formed as an escentially community agency to play a major role in the campaign in the nation’s effort to eliminate Tuberculosis.
Aims & Objectives of the Ceylon National Association for the Prevention of Tuberculosis
1. Dissemination of the most up to date information in the field of Tuberculosis and Lung diseases
2. To alert the general public, non governmental organizations and professionals in the health sector on the challenges presented by Tuberculosis and lung diseases.

It was formed six decades ago and, was in the fore front line in the control of Tuberculosis together with the Ministry of Health. Some of the highlights of our contribution to the cause are as follows. 01. Construction of special wards and chest clinics for TB patients in the provinces of the country. 02. Establishment of rehabilitation centres for patients dischraged from hospitals and providing them vocational training. 03. Providing home visiting services for the first time in Sri Lanka to create TB awareness among patients and their families. 04. Pioneer the provision of financial assistance to the TB patients. 05. Carryout the islandwide awareness campaign on Prevention of Tuberculosis. 06. Provision of Rehablitation centres for TB patients 07. Running of homes for childrens of TB patients. 08. Establishment of the Health Education Centre for awareness on TB. 09. .Carring out a national health programmes in stages to continue a national coverage. 10. To promote awareness on TB among school children and teachers under the GFATM fund as a stake holder. 11. Under took a National study on knowledge Attitude and practice (KAP) on Tuberculoiss for the first time in the history of Sri Lanka. 12. CNAPT awarded a grant for outstanding medical research each year on Tuberculosis. 13. Affliated to the International Union Against tuberculosis and a member of the Eastern Reigion of the IUAT.
We are now gearing our resources to assist the National TB Control Programmein their strategy for the contrl of tuberculosis in SriLanka.
