Fundamental Research: Drishti Foundation Trust, a non-profit organization with over a decade of experience in driving impactful initiatives across health, education, and environmental sectors, has expanded its focus to include fundamental research on Tuberculosis (TB). This initiative is in alignment with its mission to address pressing public health challenges and contribute to the global fight against TB, one of the leading causes of death from infectious diseases worldwide.
Objectives of the Research
The Foundation's TB research program focuses on understanding the disease at its core, with objectives that include:
Exploring Innovative Diagnostic Tools The Trust emphasizes the development of affordable, rapid, and accurate diagnostic methods to detect TB, particularly in resource-limited settings. Early and precise diagnosis is crucial in controlling the spread of TB. Studying Drug Resistance Patterns Multidrug-resistant TB (MDR-TB) and extensively drug-resistant TB (XDR-TB) are significant global challenges. Drishti Foundation's research aims to investigate the genetic and environmental factors contributing to resistance, enabling the development of effective treatment protocols. Advancing Vaccine Research By collaborating with research institutions and experts, the Trust works on enhancing the efficacy of existing TB vaccines and exploring novel vaccine candidates to prevent the disease, especially among vulnerable populations. Understanding Socio-Economic Impact A critical aspect of the research is to study the socio-economic determinants of TB, such as poverty, malnutrition, and lack of access to healthcare, to formulate holistic intervention strategies. Promoting Community-Based Research The Foundation leverages its grassroots presence to conduct field studies that analyze TB incidence, treatment adherence, and recovery rates in rural and underserved areas. This approach ensures community-centric solutions to combat TB. Partnerships and Collaborations
Drishti Foundation Trust has established partnerships with leading medical research institutions, public health agencies, and international organizations. These collaborations aim to share knowledge, technology, and resources to advance TB research and implement innovative solutions effectively.
Awareness and Advocacy
In addition to its research endeavors, the Trust actively engages in awareness campaigns to educate communities about TB prevention, symptoms, and treatment. These campaigns are designed to destigmatize the disease and encourage affected individuals to seek timely medical care.
Contribution to Global Goals
Drishti Foundation Trust's TB research aligns with the World Health Organization's End TB Strategy and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 3, which aims to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all. By addressing the biological, medical, and social dimensions of TB, the Foundation contributes significantly to the global effort to eliminate TB as a public health threat by 2030.
Through its commitment to innovation, inclusivity, and impact-driven research, Drishti Foundation Trust continues to make strides in the fight against TB, striving to save lives and improve health outcomes for millions.
Research: Drishti Foundation Trust, recognized for its impactful initiatives in health, education, and environmental sustainability, has embarked on a mission to contribute to the global fight against Tuberculosis (TB). As one of the deadliest infectious diseases, TB presents a significant challenge to public health, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. Drishti Foundation Trust is dedicated to advancing research and fostering innovative solutions to address this pressing issue.
Key Focus Areas of TB Research
Innovative Diagnostics Early detection is critical to controlling the spread of TB. The Foundation is working on research to develop affordable, rapid, and precise diagnostic tools tailored for use in resource-constrained settings. These tools aim to detect TB at the earliest stages, enabling timely treatment and reducing transmission rates. Drug Resistance Studies The rise of Multidrug-Resistant TB (MDR-TB) and Extensively Drug-Resistant TB (XDR-TB) has made effective treatment increasingly complex. The Foundation's research focuses on understanding the genetic mutations and environmental factors driving drug resistance, paving the way for the development of novel therapeutics. Vaccine Development and Efficacy Studies While the Bacille Calmette-Guérin (BCG) vaccine offers some protection against TB, particularly in children, its efficacy in adults remains limited. Drishti Foundation is collaborating with research institutions to enhance vaccine efficacy and explore new vaccine candidates that can provide long-lasting immunity against TB. Epidemiological Research The Foundation conducts field studies to map TB incidence, prevalence, and transmission dynamics, particularly in high-risk populations. By understanding the socio-economic and environmental factors influencing TB spread, the Foundation aims to design targeted interventions. Community-Based Research Leveraging its extensive grassroots presence, the Foundation is exploring community-level factors that impact TB treatment adherence, such as stigma, lack of awareness, and accessibility to healthcare facilities. These insights are critical to improving treatment success rates and patient outcomes. Nutritional and Immune Correlation Studies Recognizing the strong link between malnutrition and TB susceptibility, the Foundation is studying how nutritional interventions can enhance immune responses and aid in recovery, particularly among marginalized populations. Collaborative Approach
Drishti Foundation Trust believes in a multi-stakeholder approach to tackling TB. It collaborates with:
National and international health organizations. Research and academic institutions. Government agencies. Private sector partners involved in healthcare innovation. These partnerships foster knowledge sharing and resource mobilization to enhance the impact of TB research and intervention efforts.
Advocacy and Awareness
The Foundation complements its research with advocacy campaigns aimed at:
Raising awareness about TB prevention, symptoms, and treatment options. Reducing stigma surrounding the disease. Encouraging early diagnosis and treatment compliance. Alignment with Global Goals
Drishti Foundation Trust’s research on TB aligns with the World Health Organization’s End TB Strategy and contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 3, which focuses on ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all. The Foundation is committed to supporting India's efforts to eliminate TB by 2025, ahead of the global target of 2030.
Impact and Vision Through its research and interventions, Drishti Foundation Trust aims to:
Drive innovation in TB detection, prevention, and treatment. Improve health outcomes for vulnerable populations. Contribute to a TB-free future by addressing both the medical and social dimensions of the disease. By combining cutting-edge research with community-centric solutions, Drishti Foundation Trust is making significant strides in addressing one of the world’s most challenging public health issues.
