Contribution

Please tell us how your organization will contribute to the Global Plan to Stop TB by briefly describing its involvement in any of the areas of work listed below:

TB Care Delivery:
Tuberculosis case-finding is exceptionally low in Asuogyaman District as compared to the neighbouring districts which report of high HIV/AIDS and high TB case detection rate. To improve on TB/HIV output, PINNACLE HEALTH FOUNDATION integrated the screening for Tuberculosis into HIV/AIDS screening exercises during the second quarter activities. We adopted the TB screening form / questionnaire in use by the Ghana Health Service. This screening exercise was done in six communities. Though many refused to go through the screenig,a total of 453 people were screened and thirteen (5 males and 8 females) said they had coughed for more than two weeks and therefore were referred into care.

Research:
PINNACLE HEALTH FOUNDATION using a cross sectional study in march 2010 carried out an interview among OPD attendance at the VRA hospital
The aim was to screen for cough and to assess the possibility of missed TB cases.
The major findings were that Age group 50-59 recorded the lowest of 5% with 19% as the highest for age group 5-9 years.
Majority (68%) of patients with cough presented within 7 days whilst 19% &13%
of them presented within 2 weeks and more than 2 weeks respectively.
The analysis show that many patients who were not suspected of having TB (within the WHO criteria) will be missed and not referred for sputum smears.
It is recommended to the District Director that clinicians should be trained in the new criteria for diagnosis of TB and other diagnostic centers be set up in the district to improve the case detection rate.
