Organization Description: |
History of the Organization: The write-up below provides cursory glance at the organizational history. Formation: Baidarie is a non-governmental and not for profit organization. It was established in 1993 by those rural women and girls of Union Council Roras Tehsil Sambrial District Sialkot –Pakistan who were keen to work for the empowerment and development of the women of their area. This group of girls struggled to
1. Motivate women/girls to shun away lethargy and be active for their development 2. Build the capacity of underprivileged women for securing and asserting their rights and 3. Enable them to become part of the decision making processes in those matters at least which were directly related to their own lives.
Their efforts instilled confidence and courage among women and girls and eventually in 1993 they decided to organize themselves into an organization having “Baidarie” as its name. This Urdu word means “Awakening”
Evolution and Growth:
As an outcome result of incessant endeavors made over a span of several years in encountering vehement resistance generated and substantiated by local political and religious monopolists in the rural set up, the founding women social activists succeeded in creating a big cadre of like-minded women activists and mobilizing them to step out of their houses and plan, execute and monitor activities aiming at their own development. This was the setting of new trends in an area where survival of even a male organization was difficult; a women organization had begun getting its roots strengthened through measures aiming at awakening social consciousness and their building capacity.
Track record of the interventions made by Baidarie during 1993 to 2010 reflects that it has been continuously and exclusively working for the social, economic and political empowerment of women/girls belonging to the marginalized social segments living in backward rural areas. Neither it has ever deviated from its basic mandate of working for the protection & promot |
