Organization Description:
We are an international NGO based in Uganda. Our current TB control interventions are in Uganda and South Sudan.

Founded in 2010, our main area of focus is helping health workers make sense (and take immediate action) of the TB data that they collect on a daily basis. To achieve this, we have designed a simple software such that if the health worker can just enter their TB patients' details, the software would assist him/her to;
a. Generate error free quarterly TB reports to the National (Provincial/Zonal) TB Program Coordinators and other stakeholders.
b. Instantly identify and follow up TB patients who may have missed their scheduled review dates
c. Instantly identify TB patients who may be due for services like sputum culture and sensitivity testing, HIV counseling and testing, Cotrimoxazole prophylaxis etc.
d. Link TB patients on DOTS to previously treated patients (or other treatment supporters) who can provide peer and social support to current TB patients on treatment.
e. Instantly identify and refer HIV positive TB patients to appropriate HIV service providers/ART treatment centres.
f. Monitor Anti-TB supplies and generate instant anti-TB supplies' orders (to be completed soon).
g. Generate a quick and thorough overview of their past TB control program performance (TB indicator analysis) of the health facility/TBMU/County/Health Sub District/Zone/State/Country for whatever time period of interest.
h. Generate graphs of the previous TB program performance instantly for up to 15 TB-HIV program indicators.
i. Share TB data easily with higher levels or colleagues involved in TB control.
j. For more functionality details, please visit our home page at http://www.tbregister.org/

In Tb programs where our software is used, ther is already a visible change in the sputum conversion and treatment success rates!

Contribution

Please tell us how your organization will contribute to the Global Plan to Stop TB by briefly describing its involvement in any of the areas of work listed below:

TB Care Delivery:
Adherence to TB treatment is still a big problem, at least in South Sudan and Uganda. Some of the causative factors are certainly outside the patients' control like if there is a civil war 9South Sudan) or if there are drug supply shortages at the NTP level (Uganda).
Our software helps health staff to instantly detect any TB patients who may have missed their scheduled review/drug refill dates. It also shows instantly which TB patients are expected to come for review/drug refill in the next days/weeks ahead. Users (health staff) can then predict how much drugs they need. The software also incorporates a functionality of TB treatment support. In case a TB patient has not have come for review, the health worker can get in touch with the patient or his/her treatment supporter directly for follow up.
Consequently, this is improving the TB treatment outcomes.

Drug-Resistant TB:
The section for follow up of drugs resistant TB is not yet developed in our software. However, by identifying potential defaulters early enough, our software contributes to a reduction of cases that would have otherwise developed drug resistant TB.

TB-HIV:
Our software includes a special section on TB-HIV. On the click of a button, a list of TB patients who were not tested for HIV can be populated and then they are followed up accordingly. The same applies to lists of TB patients who may have not been started on CPT or started on ART.
The TB indicator analysis section of our software can generate graphs of several TB-HIV related indicators. The graphs can give the health staff an instant overview of the performance of his/her TB control program.

Research:
After a 2-year test phase, we have no doubt that this software is very useful in helping the staff to monitor the TB patients on treatment. We hope to customise it further for use in other countries, and also in other languages in 2012 and beyond.
