Organization Description: |
The Media Network on Child Rights and Development (MNCRD) is a vibrant, membership driven, media association dedicated to sensitising and equipping the media and children to cover child rights and development issues in Zambia. It works with government, civil society, cooperating partners, children and journalists to ensure that the voices of children and their issues are captured in the media to achieve policy change and implementation.
• Vision A Zambia where children’s rights are understood, prioritised and enforced. • Mission The MNCRD exists to empower journalists and children with media skills to promote child participation, protection and the upholding of children's rights by working with the media, civil society organisations, cooperating partners, regional networks, children and relevant government departments. In 2005, MNCRD held a capacity building workshop in Western Province where journalists and civil society leaders were made to understand how they can work together to advance child rights; in 2007, a meeting for church leaders and the media was called when the Global Fund for HIV and AIDS, TB and Malaria launched its work where the MNCRD presented papers on how church leaders can work with the media; and the MNCRD has for the past five years been hosting Child Discussion Forums where established, upcoming civil society organisations and children are given a platform to air their views on education, health, abuse and HIV and AIDS issues. |
