Organization Description: |
FHI 360 (formerly known as Family Health International) is a public health and development organization working to improve the lives of the world's most vulnerable people. Since 1971, Family Health International has been a global leader in family planning and reproductive health and, since 1986, in the worldwide response to HIV/AIDS. FHI's research and programs also address malaria, tuberculosis, and other infectious and chronic diseases. FHI works in partnership with agencies, I/NGOs, and private sector companies to promote the use of research and evidence to guide decision-making, policy, resource allocation, and public health programs. FHI 360 has been working in Nepal since 1993 to support the Government of Nepal to curtail the spread of HIV and provide treatment care and support services to vulnerable groups and those infected by HIV. In addition to HIV and AIDS, FHI 360 Nepal also focuses on some other aspects of public health including Rotavirus research, health care waste management and recently since September 2010 in tuberculosis.
Nepal TB Reach Project With funding from the STOP TB Partnership, FHI 360 Nepal, under the guidance of the National Tuberculosis Center in Nepal is implementing the TB REACH Project. The project’s main objective is to promote early and increased case detection of infectious tuberculosis (TB) cases and ensure their timely treatment. Under this one year project, FHI 360 Nepal works with regional TB treatment centers to increase TB case detection through active case finding among: 1.Seasonal migrants workers (in six districts) 2.High-risk, hard-to-reach, vulnerable populations (in seven districts) 3.OPD patients in government hospitals (in 2 districts). Those diagnosed with TB are treated at existing National TB Program facilities with regular follow up to ensure treatment adherence. The Nepal TB REACH Project aims to identify over 2,000 new smear positive TB cases in Nepal.
