Organization Description:
National TB Reference Laboratory is part of Central Public Health Laboratories which in turn is institution of Ministry of Health; Sultanate of Oman. The major activity of National TB Reference Laboratory includes

1. AFB microscopy, TB culture/identification and Drug Sensitivity Testing (DST) by using both automated and conventional methods.
2. Genetic Fingerprinting M. tuberculosis by employing the Spoligotyping and MIRU-VNTRs.
3. TB contact screening using Interferon Gamma Release Assay (IGRA).
4. Molecular identification of drug resistant genes and species identification of Non Tuberculous Mycobacteria (NTM) using line probe assay.
5. Training and research.
Furthermore, we are under final stage of accreditation to become Supra National TB reference for the Eastern Mediterranean region.

Please tell us how your organization is contributing to your country's national TB control plan:
1. Being national reference center for DST we are providing DST data to NTP from all over the county.
2. We are doing contact tracing investigation by using IGRA analysis.
3. We are providing molecular genotyping data to NTP for molecular epidemiological investigations.
4. In addition, our lab is doing routing direct sputum microscopy culture, second line DST and molecular probe assay of NTM.

Drug-Resistant TB:
We are doing first line and second line DST on MTB isolates submitted to us from all over the countries and form Qatar.

Laboratory Strengthening:
We are providing molecular genotyping data to NTP Oman, for molecular epidemiological investigations.
