Organization Description:
Welfare Foundation (WF) aims to improve the quality of life for the poor through research and advocacy on issues related to healthcare, poverty alleviation and social welfare. The organization’s objectives and efforts are focused on the areas most urgent for the vulnerable population of Georgia (namely, people living in poverty, IDPs, rural population and other vulnerable groups), such as primary health care, access to and quality of health services, maternal child health, HIV/AIDS, TB, etc. WF devoted significant efforts to promoting civil society participation in the development and implementation of national health policies.

Please tell us how your organization will contribute to the Global Plan to Stop TB by briefly describing its involvement in any of the areas of work listed below:

TB-HIV:
Welfare Foundation has implemented two TB projects:
1.“TB/HIV co-infection Monitoring and Advocacy”;
This project was successful in terms of advocating civil society and community engagement in TB control, policymaking efforts around the adoption and implementation of collaborative TB/HIV activities, as well as enhancing cooperation between governmental and non-governmental health stakeholders.

2.”Decreasing burden of Tuberculosis by contributing to building and empowerment of TB communities of women and other vulnerable groups in Adjara region of Georgia”
This project aimed the participatory approaches and community participation possibilities in shaping policy at local level, by giving voice to people living with TB and those involved in its prevention, treatment and care, through workshops, focus group discussions and provision of educational materials.
