Organization Description: |
Micro Enterprise Development Fund (MED-Fund) is incorporated in Ghana in 2003 under the companies Code of 1963 (Act 179) Limited by guarantee and certified by the Department of Social Welfare to operate as a national NGO in 2005
MED-Fund came into existence primarily to enhance the operations and performance of micro enterprises owned and operated by women both in the rural an urban communities
MED-fund’s goal is to generate greater economic empowerment for women through better capitalization and improved management of their economic activities, increase access to financial services for poor women as micro entrepreneurs and build organizational capacity to serve women’s credit needs with appropriate products and services.
From experience, MED-fund has realised that any gain made to empower women economically would be eroded if their state of health and that of their children are not properly addressed
MED-Fund has therefore harmoniously incorporated health issues into its mainstream activities of providing micro credit and business development. It has collaborated with some District Health Directorates to successfully implement donor funded programmes on malaria and TB (Global Fund). MED-Fund has also voluntarily assisted some District Health Management Teams to carry out immunisation programmes (Expanded Programme on Immunisation) (EPI)) over the years.
Some anti TB programmes carried out are Awareness Creation, Sensitisation and Education, DOTS Extensions, Default Tracing, Care and Support of TB/HIV patients.
