Organization Description: |
The Southeastern National Tuberculosis Center (SNTC) is one of four Regional Training and Medical Consultation Centers (RTMCC) in the United States. The RTMCCs are funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Division of Tuberculosis Elimination. The SNTC supports the education and training missions of TB programs throughout our region and provides a source of expert medical consultation for healthcare providers caring for TB patients. We serve 11 southeastern states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The Florida Department of Health (DOH), in a cooperative agreement with the CDC, has contracted with the University of Florida College of Medicine to provide and coordinate our services at the Gainesville campus, where our central office is located. All efforts of the SNTC are guided by these principles: • To control and eventually eliminate TB; • To include, communicate with and provide accountability to our stakeholders; • To provide state-of-the-art treatment and training methodologies; • To appreciate the diversity, history and technical expertise of the TB providers in our region; • To align with the National Strategic Plan for TB Training and Education goals. Our International activities are managed through the Latin American TB Training Division which is focusing on developing a Central American Center of Excellence for TB training and Research located in El Salvador. Our partners include: the Minister of Health (MSPAS), the National University (UES), and PAHO/Washington and El Salvador. Another country in which our Center has initiated contacts to provide technical assistance is the Dominican Republic and Ecuador. In the Dominican Republic we participated in the 2006 National TB Program evaluation, from the findings we pursue to provide technical assistant to support problem strengthening. |
