Organization Description: |
Mission Statement The mission of Women of Wonder is to empower young women and girls living with HIV, TB, and other health conditions, promoting their economic independence, health, and well-being.
Main Focus The main focus of Women of Wonder is to provide holistic support services to young women and girls living with HIV, TB, and other health conditions, addressing their economic, health, and social needs.
Interest in Tuberculosis Women of Wonder is interested in tuberculosis (TB) because:
1. *High TB-HIV co-infection rate*: TB is the leading cause of death among people living with HIV, and South Africa has one of the highest TB-HIV co-infection rates in the world. 2. *Vulnerable populations*: Young women and girls living with HIV are disproportionately affected by TB, due to their compromised immune systems and socio-economic vulnerabilities. 3. *Stigma and discrimination*: TB is often stigmatized, leading to delayed diagnosis, treatment, and social isolation, which exacerbates the vulnerability of young women and girls living with HIV.
TB Control Efforts Women of Wonder plans to:
1. *Provide TB awareness and education*: Conduct community outreach and sensitization campaigns to raise awareness about TB, its symptoms, and treatment options. 2. *Support TB testing and treatment*: Partner with local healthcare providers to offer TB testing and treatment services, ensuring that young women and girls living with HIV have access to timely and effective care. 3. *Promote TB prevention*: Encourage young women and girls living with HIV to adopt TB prevention measures, such as wearing masks, practicing good hygiene, and avoiding close contact with individuals with active TB. 4. *Advocate for TB policy change*: Collaborate with local stakeholders to advocate for policy changes that address the unique needs of young women and girls living with HIV and TB. |
