Contribution

Please tell us how your organization will contribute to the Global Plan to Stop TB by briefly describing its involvement in any of the areas of work listed below:

TB Care Delivery:
Tuberculosis care delivery encompasses a range of activities aimed at effectively managing and treating tuberculosis (TB). This includes:
1. Advocacy: Efforts to influence policies and resource allocation for TB care and prevention. Advocacy aims to raise awareness and mobilize support from stakeholders, including government officials, health care providers, and the public.
2. Communications: Disseminating information about TB prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and care. Effective communication strategies help inform communities, reduce stigma, and encourage people to seek care.
3. Social mobilization: Engaging communities to promote active participation in TB control efforts. This may include organizing events, forming support groups, and encouraging individuals to educate others about TB.
Together, these elements help improve TB care delivery by ensuring that patients receive comprehensive, supportive, and timely treatment, while promoting a collaborative community approach to health.

TB-HIV:
Importance of Testing: It is crucial for people with HIV to be tested for TB. A negative TB test can occur even if a person is infected, due to the compromised immune response12. Regular screening is essential for effective management.

Treatment Options

Effective Treatments Available: Both latent and active TB can be treated in individuals with HIV. Treatment regimens may include:

12 weeks of isoniazid and rifapentine (3HP) or four months of daily rifampin, depending on drug interactions with antiretroviral therapy2.

Longer treatment durations may be necessary for those not on antiretroviral therapy or those with delayed responses2.

New TB Drugs:
Global Efforts and Funding: The World Health Organization (WHO) has highlighted the urgent need for new vaccines to combat TB effectively. Despite some progress, global investment in TB vaccine research remains insufficient, with an estimated need of $5 billion annually to achieve significant reductions in TB incidence by 2030.
