Organization Description:
Inter Aide is an NGO specialized in design and implementation of development projects. Since its foundation in 1980, it has carried out activities in more than 10 developing countries, both in urban and rural contexts. Its mission is to provide the poorest families with the capacities and the will to respond to their basic needs. The scope of intervention covers different developmental fields: access to safe water, food security, reproductive health and TB control, income generation, access to school… Inter Aide is conducting about 60 projects in 4 geographical sectors. Each project is directed by a project officer benefiting from a large professional autonomy, supervised by 8 qualified coordinators based in France. Overall yearly budget was 8.5 millions US dollars in 2003.
Our expertise in TB control project is built on 18 years of involvement, both in Mumbai Urban Agglomeration - India, and in Wolayta District - Ethiopia.

In Ethiopia, Inter Aide conduct project to facilitate the implementation of NTCP guidelines, to improve case finding, to set up referal system through the mobilisation of health agents, and to improve the perfomances of diagnostic units

Contribution

Please tell us how your organization will contribute to the Global Plan to Stop TB by briefly describing its involvement in any of the areas of work listed below:

TB Care Delivery:
Provide key information on tuberculosis to target population through IEC activities at cluster level.Provide specific training to Health agents and volunteers, focussing on TB epidemic and based on a concrete organisation for strengthening case detection. Set up a network for suspect identification linking Community Volunteers and Health agents through frequent interactions and regular review meetings
Design simple mass communication tools that might be used as media information, that could be provided to HEWs and volunteers, former patients and displayed in public places.Assist the Health Office in organising regular sputum collection sites. Provide training on sputum collection if necessary to health professionals.Promote the effective decentralisation of DOT at health post level. Encourage the Zonal and Woreda health institutions to apply national guidelines on this topic

Laboratory Strengthening:
Organise training for the lab technicians Selective reinforcement of laboratory technicians' capacities to conduct on-site sputum collection centres. Training goes along with a component of capacities building, through completing the upgrading of laboratories, ensuring availability of basic equipment
