Organization Description:
One Health Conservation Initiative is an organization dedicated to the conservation through the One Health concept. Our aim is to achieve project of health link to this concept that can have an influence in the conservation aspects of the area of influence.

We interested in tuberculosis because this is a big issues in the human population where we work and because is a major concern for the conservation of Great Apes and other species (as antilopes and wild pigs)of wild species in the area. Also the status of Tuberculosis in the cows in the area is unknown, meanwhile it can a be a source of infection for humans (that after can infect Great Apes) and for wild animals in the protected areas where they arrive.

We run already a One Health tuberculosis project called TTHALESS which look for TB in wild and domestic animals and humans integrating new diagnostic tools and a new approach.

Please tell us how your organization is contributing to your country's national TB control plan:
We do out current research project in coordination with the National Tuberculosis program in Democratic Republic of Congo (PNLT) and we collaborate with the diagnose of tuberculosis in our health area integrating the results in the result of PNLT.

Contribution

Please tell us how your organization will contribute to the Global Plan to Stop TB by briefly describing its involvement in any of the areas of work listed below:

TB Care Delivery:
We coordinate with the TB national Program of TB in DRC (PNLT) that positive cases that pass through our research can take properly their treatment. We do the F2 and F5 control and we compensate them with a flavour sacs when they pass each step of the treatment until the end.

Drug-Resistant TB:
In our actual research project we do Xpert® MTB/Rif to each patient include in our research, studying the resistance to rifampicine in the first cartrige, and if needed we do the cartridge of Xpert® MTB/XDR.

TB-HIV:
We do rapid test in each patient that reach our program and if positive we send to the VIH national program. In fact, we have a genxpert machine and we would like to start to use also to do viral VIH charge in the patients positive.

Laboratory Strengthening:
We have created a new laboratory in Centre de Recherche en Sciences Naturelles de Lwiro (CRSN Lwiro), in this new laboratory we run our current TB project.

New Diagnostics:
We are studying the use of other samples that sputum or broncho alveolar lavage (primates) for the diagnose of tuberculose. We are trying faeces of both animals and humans. We are also trying to see how establish a good methods for milk and faeces in cows. We study decontamination methods in samples to get better results in cultures and other tests.

Research:
We run currently a One Health tuberculosis project as I commented to you.
