Vision: DAPP envisions a society in which communities are self-sustainable and have an improved quality of life.

Mission:The mission of DAPP in Malawi is to promote social and economic development. Through a variety of development models, DAPP complements the government’s effort in implementing the Malawi Growth and Development Strategy to achieve the nation’s plans. The people engaged in the development initiatives of DAPP are trained and equipped with tools and knowledge enabling them to transform their dreams and wishes for a better life into practical actions.

DAPP implements projects in the sectors of health, education hereunder-vocational training, agriculture, food security & environment and community development.

DAPP Malawi works closely with long-standing and respected international and national partners in improving lives of poor people. Such as improving access to qualified and dedicated teachers in rural primary schools, training youth in various skills, increasing food security among smallholder farmers, and combating the spread of major diseases with a focus on HIV & AIDS, TB and malaria. The organization also raises funds for its social development projects through the selling of second hand clothing, while helping generate economic growth in rural areas

DAPP WORK IN TB PREVENTION
DAPP complements Malawi' Government's efforts in Active TB Case Finding and Treatment in through door to door community mobilization strategy focusing on:
a) Awareness on HIV and TB; b) Screening for TB at the doorstep; c) Rapid diagnostics for HIV; d) Collection and transport of sputum samples; e) Referrals and supporting initiation of treatment; f) Treatment adherence and psychosocial support; g) Contact investigations; h) Supporting clients lost to follow up to restart treatment and i) TB preventive therapy for eligible children and PLHIV

DAPP Malawi implements projects contributes to Active TB Case Detection, Support and Treatment through the following key interventions;
a) Awareness on HIV and TB; b) Active case finding through TB screening at the doorstep; c) Rapid diagnostics for HIV in TB presumptives; d) Collection and transportation of sputum samples from the community to diagnostic facilities through engagement of community volunteers; e) Conducting referrals and supporting initiation of treatment; f) Treatment adherence using DOT and psycho-social support; g) conducting TB contact investigations; h) Supporting clients lost to follow up to restart treatment and i) TB preventive therapy for eligible children and PLHIV.

Contribution

Please tell us how your organization will contribute to the Global Plan to Stop TB by briefly describing its involvement in any of the areas of work listed below:

TB Care Delivery:
Awareness raising on TB and TB/HIV to the community, patients and service providers in the hospitals to help in reducing stigma hospitals, increase TB case detection in hospitals of project targeted areas, improve treatment outcomes of TB patients in hospitals of project targeted areas. The organization's intervention efforts also contributes to increase in number of presumptive patients screened for TB and tested using rapid diagnostics, the Gene- Xpert.

Drug-Resistant TB:
The organization collaborates with NTP and DHMT in identifying Drug Resistant TB through patient follow-up for treatment adherence and linkng them for treatment re-initiation at the health facility, formation and training of treatment support TRIOs (2 guardians and 1 patient) to ensure treatment adherence, mobilizing patient's family to establish backyard gardens for nutritional support to the patient and where possible, procure and distribute nutritious food supplements to the TB patient. Cooking demonstrations are done the entire community and the patient's TRIO. Prevention messages and stigma reduction messages are passed on during mass awareness in the community.

TB-HIV:
The Organization carries out integrated TB/HIV service provision. TB screening for case finding is done, rapid HIV diagnosis done to all TB presumptives, TB screening and referrals for all HIV positive clients is done, referrals for all HIV positive clients for IPT, support system is established and trained, linkage to TB/HIV support groups done, community awareness sessions are carried out and sensitization for backyard gardens establishment and cooking demonstrations are also.

Laboratory Strengthening:
At health facility level, with support from different partners, the organization had provided training to Lab personnel, procured and distributed microscopes for sputum smear testing, support reduced turn around time for TB diagnosis through patient triage and referrals for sputum submission for diagnosis. In some instances, procured slides and sputum mugs for the Lab.

New Diagnostics:
Support facilities systematic expanded TB screening of people presenting at clinics/hospitals using CXR/CAD4TB, access to GeneXpert and urine LAM, support sample transportation system to function according to service demand through household based sputum sample collection, transportation and related treatment adherence support and care
