RESOURCES NEEDED FOR TB AND HIV/AIDS CONTROL
Prevention of HIV transmission reduces the risks of TB reactivation.
On the other hand, treatment of TB in HIV infected persons does improve the quality of lives of these people.
Both TB and HIV/AIDS have some common control strategies, namely, IEC, social mobilization and community-directed management approach.
TB uses the DOTs approach while HIV/AIDS incorporates management at community or home level.
Given the close linkage between the two diseases, mobilization of any resources needed should take this in to account. HIV/AIDS control should not be done in isolation of TB control.
Uganda has already adopted an integrated approach in the HIV/AIDS and TB control. Planning and mobilization of resources for both conditions are linked.
