13-14 November 2006 - Workshop on Advocacy, Communication and Social Mobilization, Sao Paulo - Brazil

In Spanish

WHO/PAHO Brazil office realized a workshop on Advocacy, Communication and Social Mobilization (ACSM) with the coordination of the Ministry of Health. This workshop was achieved thanks to the participation of USAID funds and as part of the TBCTA activities for the DOTS Strategy implementation.

Participants were the representatives of the State Secretaries, Health Municipalities and the civil society from 10 metropolitans areas (Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, Baixada Santista, Belo Horizonte, Salvador, Belem, Fortaleza, Recife, Porto Alegre, Manaus). These 10 metropolitans areas are directly beneficiaries from the GFATM, were they will make use of the resources for the ACSM activities.

The objectives of the workshop activities were:
1. To learn what the Brazilian States are doing in ACSM and how best we can share the best practices from Rio de Janeiro y Sao Paulo, Ceará, Minas Gerais;
2. To acknowledge the challenges to create ACSM workplans in the different States;
3. To establish a first strategic plan for ACSM activities in each of these States, in order to discuss and get approval from the authorities and the civil society.

As a result, each State produce a strategic plan for ACSM, which was discussed and approved in a plenary session. Each plan will be used by their respective State to best implement the GFATM funds.
