Organization Description:
Moxafrica is a UK registered charity active in the systematic investigation of a traditional Japanese treatment that was used and reserached in the early part of the 20th century for treating tuberculosis. This is moxibustion, specifically 'small cone direct moxibustion'. The aims specifically orientate themselves aroudn the threat of drug-resistant TB.

We are noty actively interested in our own NTP. The treatment we are investigating is specifically appropraite to resource-poor environments (which the UK is not).

Contribution

Please tell us how your organization will contribute to the Global Plan to Stop TB by briefly describing its involvement in any of the areas of work listed below:

Drug-Resistant TB:
With the benefit of results from existing research using small cone direct moxa as an adjunctive treatment for DS-TB cases in a phase II RCT we are keen to develop similar studies specifically focusing on responses in diagnosed DR-TB patients.

TB-HIV:
We are intent on depeening our understanding of how the treatment we are investigating may benefit co-infected patients.

Research:
Our fundamental interest is in seeing whether our investigations may help rates of successful treatment and cure in MDR- and XDR-TB patients.
