Organization Description:
FUGI is a non-governmental organisation, actively committed to helping the rural people, (especially rural women and children) as well as rural and peri-urban associations and institutions to become more aware of themselves and their environment and increase their effectiveness to fight disease, poverty and enhance their well-being.

Early detection and treatment of TB is a key indicator of disease prevention and poverty alleviation, hence, FUGI's interest in being interested in tuberculosis detection, early treatment, prevention and control.

FUGI hopes to receive further funding to continue with its Community Action Against TB.

Please tell us how your organization is contributing to your country's national TB control plan:
FUGI for many year,worked with the Ghana Health Service (GHS) National TB Control Directorate /FUGI In 20 communities undertaking the – COMMUNITY ACTION AGAINST TB PREVENTION & CARE Project(2007-2011). The goal was to reach a given targeted populations with information on TB Prevention, Treatment & Control.
Activities included detection and referral of new and dropout cases for care, and education for prevention and adherence to treatment through trained community volunteers.

Subsequently, FUGI incorporates in an integrated package, TB education into other project/program activities that we undertake.

Contribution

Please tell us how your organization will contribute to the Global Plan to Stop TB by briefly describing its involvement in any of the areas of work listed below:

TB-HIV:
FUGI has mobilized and trained 14 HIV Support Groups in 8 districts in the Volta Region, on Positive living skills, including early detection and treatment of TB. FUGI staff have very close collaboration with these support groups to link suspected TB-HIV cases to the appropriate health facilities for diagnosis and treatment.
