In its work to prevent, treat and control tuberculosis and lung disease in low- and middle-income countries, The Union collaborates closely with the Stop TB Partnership and the World Health Organization. Union researchers developed the WHO-recommended TB control strategy now implemented in more than 182 countries. In 2010, The Union provided technical assistance, research and education programmes in 80 countries on tuberculosis, HIV, asthma, child lung health and tobacco-related diseases. The Union also sponsors the World Conference on Lung Health and other conferences and training courses, conducts clinical trials, manages several projects such as Treat TB and the Asthma Drug Facility, and publishes the International Journal of Tuberculosis and Lung Disease and other scientific manuals.
