Stop TB Partnership

Tajikistan launches its national Stop TB Partnership

4 August 2014 - Dushanbe, Tajikistan - An event to inaugurate the national Stop TB Partnership in Tajikistan took place on 30 July in Dushanbe.

Tajikistan is among the high burden tuberculosis (TB) countries in the WHO European Region. According to official government figures, in the past four years the TB incidence rate has started to decrease. However the level of TB in the country is still under the targets set by the Millennium Development Goals. The seriousness of the situation and the trend of TB, especially multidrug-resistant and extensively drug-resistant TB in the Republic of Tajikistan require a joint effort to meet the needs of TB patients. National policies and programmes need to be strengthened in order to make this happen.

As a response to this, TB activists as part of the organization Young Generation of Tajikistan initiated the creation and development of the Stop TB Partnership, Tajikistan - a coalition of people affected by TB and the collective group of organizations involved in the fight against TB.

With partners including the Republican Centre of Population Protection from TB, Project HOPE and USAID’s Quality Health Care Project at the event, more than 60 participants represented people affected by TB, recovered TB patients, their relatives and other organizations involved in the fight against TB.
