2004 U.S. Media Tour

From September 20th through September 29th 2004, Dr. Marcos Espinal, Executive Secretary and Thaddeus Pennas, Advocacy Officer for the Stop TB Partnership traveled to Washington D.C., New York, Indianapolis, and Los Angeles as part of a US Media Tour to meet with US legislators, Stop TB partners, stakeholders and the media to raise awareness and advocate for increased funding for TB.
XV International AIDS Conference in Bangkok

In a special public appearance at the International AIDS Conference, Nelson Mandela, a former TB patient himself, made an appeal for stronger commitment to the fight against TB as an essential factor in the fight against AIDS. "The world has made defeating AIDS a top priority. This is a blessing, but TB remains ignored," Mr. Mandela stated. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation also announced a grant of $45 million which will be dedicated to AIDS and TB research.
In Bangkok, the Partnership Secretariat produced and distributed a new information pack on TB/HIV, produced in association with UNAIDS. Together with UNAIDS and the Global Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS (GNP+), the Secretariat also organized a workshop at the Conference on TB/HIV for HIV/AIDS treatment activists.
