"Stop TB, fight poverty"
Satellite Symposium on TB and Poverty
Montreal 11th & 12th October 2002

St Maurice Room, Hotel Fairmont: The Queen Elizabeth.

This Satellite Symposium builds on the World TB Day 2002 theme: "Stop TB, fight poverty". TB is the top cause of avoidable death in poor countries. Only one in four TB patients is treated with DOTS, and the poor may be underrepresented in this group. The Symposium will explore the link between TB and poverty and the methods of ensuring TB control reaches poor people.

The Symposium, which will take place immediately after the 33rd International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease (The Union) World Conference on Lung Health, aims to raise awareness among decision-makers, opinion leaders and implementers around the world. Ways in which an analysis of TB and Poverty helps in targeting existing Stop TB action plans towards achievement of the Millennium Development Goals and Stop TB Partnership targets will be highlighted.

As part of this year’s theme, this symposium will build on the work fostered by the Stop TB partnership’s TB and Poverty Advisory Committee. Registration is free.

The deadline for abstract submission has now closed.
