STOP TB PARTNERSHIP

  • In their official signed communiqué from the Gleneagles summit last week, G8 leaders committed themselves to help meet needs identified by the Stop TB Partnership in the global fight against tuberculosis. For the text of the full communiqué, click here.

  • Geneva -- The World Health Assembly endorsed a resolution for TB control at its 58th meeting in Geneva, Switzerland.

  • Memorandum of understanding to strengthen cooperation and support for global TB control signed between the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria and the Stop TB Partnership. For more information click here.

  • GDF Announces Results of New Tender and Prices for anti-TB drugs

    Responding to changes in the TB drug market, especially price increases and bottlenecks in the supply of key active pharmaceutical ingredients for first-line TB drugs, the GDF issued a new tender for drug manufacturers in March this year. Click here to read the briefing note on this issue.



  • GDF surpasses 4 million treatments in 4 years

  • The 11th meeting of the GDF Technical Review Committee (TRC) took place between 12-14 April 2005. The TRC, a body of international TB and drug management experts responsible for reviewing country applications to the GDF, reviewed applications from 11 countries during its April meeting. Of the 11 applications reviewed, 7 were approved for new or continued support. To date, the TRC has approved more than 75 applications to the GDF.

  • GFATM TB update

    Following the Round 5 proposal deadline (June 10th) The Global Fund to fight Aids, TB, and Malaria (GFATM) recently published details of the number, category, and size of proposals it had received.

  • Fidelis grant programme for innovative TB control activities has launched its Round V. Details here.

RECENT MEETINGS

  • WHO Strategic and Technical Advisory Group meeting on Tuberculosis (STAG-TB), 20-22 June, WHO/HQ, Geneva Switzerland.

  • Regional WHO TB Advisers meeting 22-24 June 2005, Divonne, France, and Geneva, Switzerland. Main meeting objectives were to discuss the Second Global Plan to Stop TB and strategies towards reaching the MDGs, obtain regional input on practical implementation of the Global Strategy to Stop TB and International Standard of Care, and to identify opportunities for improved collaboration with HQ Units and teams and discuss the 2006-2007 biennium work plan and joint activities.

  • EMRO NTP Manager's meeting 12-14 June 2005. The 10th National TB Programme Manager's meeting of the Eastern Mediterranean Region took place in Muscat, Oman from 12-14 June 2005.

  • WPRO NTP Manager's meeting 14-17 June 2005. The meeting of the National TB Programme and Laboratory managers from seven high-burden countries of the Western Pacific Region (WPR) was held on 14-17 June 2005 in Siem Reap, Cambodia.

Stop TB Partnership Secretariat staff update

Robert Matiru was officially designated the Operations Manager for the Global Drug Facility.

We are pleased to welcome new staff members:

Adam Thomas, GDF Technical Officer who is coordinating activities with the application review and monitoring sub-team.

Hélène Castel, GDF Technical officer who is coordinating all country visit and monitoring missions.

Désirée Kogevinas, Technical officer who will be coordinating GDF monitoring and evaluation activities.

Maureen Forrestel, an intern with the GDF this summer is working on a questionnaire on the newly developed Stop TB patient kits - outcomes to be presented at the IUATLD Congress.

Lucy Moore has gone back to her home country of Australia. We wish her all the best in her new endeavors and thank her for her valuable contribution to the work of the GDF during her years in Geneva.
